The concept of the power suit emerged as a symbol of professional success, authority and confidence. It was popularized by influential figures primarily in business and politics and those who adopted the attire wanted to convey a sense of power and influence. The power suit became associated with corporate culture and the idea of “dressing for success” emphasizing the importance of projecting a strong and commanding image in the workplace.

Here in SF and silicon valley, dressing like you just rolled out of bed became a form of a ‘power suit’ believe it or not with it’s inherent ‘F you, I’ll do what I want’ attitude. While the traditional power suit may no longer be as prevalent, its traditional tenants of confidence, professionalism and authority remain relevant. Focusing on an authentic and aligned personal brand image is a more sophisticated way of achieving the underlying principles of the ‘Power Suit’
